Privacy policy
Diaulos is a training app for people who lift and run. It is run by the developer of Diaulos. The short version: your training and health data stay on your iPhone and Apple Watch. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing is sold. The only account is for gym leaderboards, which are off unless you join them.
Apple Health
With your permission, Diaulos reads sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, heart rate, breathing rate, wrist temperature, body weight, workouts and running distance from Apple Health, to work out how recovered you are and to plan your training. It writes weigh-ins you log, runs you track with your phone (distance, heart rate, pauses and route) and strength sessions from the watch back to Apple Health.
Health data is used only to plan and explain your own training. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with anyone for any other purpose. You can change what Diaulos can read and write at any time in the Health app (Sharing > Apps).
What stays on your devices
- Your profile, plan, training log, results and settings are stored on your iPhone.
- Your iPhone and Apple Watch send your session to each other directly.
- Location is used while you track a run with your phone, to find gyms near you, and to tell which of your saved gyms you're at when you open the Log. Routes, your location and your gyms are kept on your phone (and gyms in your iCloud backup), never sent to us unless you join gym leaderboards (below), and even then your location never is.
- Bluetooth is used only to read a heart rate strap you connect.
- Photos and videos you use for share cards stay on your phone. A card only leaves your phone when you share or save it yourself.
iCloud backup
Backup is on unless you turn it off (Settings > Backup in the app). A copy of your profile and training log goes to your own private iCloud storage. Health readings (body weight and heart rate) are left out of it, and Apple Health data is never included. Apple keeps it under your Apple ID; we can't see or open it. You can delete it from Settings in the app or from your iCloud settings.
AI explanations (optional)
AI explanations are off until you turn them on. When they're on, the app sends a few short facts to our server so it can write the day's explanation in plain sentences: your goal, a short headline, your readiness score, up to six short facts (for example "HRV is 12% below your normal"), and the session and decision for the day.
No name, email, account, device ID, location or raw Health data is sent. Our server passes the facts to Anthropic's Claude API, returns the sentences to your phone and stores nothing. The server runs on Cloudflare, which handles the connection like any web host. Anthropic processes the facts under its own privacy policy. You can turn AI explanations off at any time in Settings.
Gym leaderboards (optional)
Gym leaderboards are off until you join them with Sign in with Apple. We keep only a scrambled (hashed) form of the identifier Apple gives us, never your Apple ID or email. When you've joined, after each workout at a gym that isn't private the app sends: your display name; the gym (its name and map position, as Apple Maps lists it); the day; the best set of the squat, bench press, deadlift, overhead press and pull-ups, with when each of those sets was checked off; the workout's total volume and number of sets; and three yes-or-no checks worked out on your phone (the workout started at the gym; an Apple Watch workout was recorded; your heart rate rose with the sets). Your weight class and body weight are sent only if you choose to share them.
Never sent: your location, heart rate readings or any other Apple Health data, readiness, sleep, other exercises, or workouts at gyms marked private. Gyms on military installations are always private, and any member can mark one: it comes off the boards at once and, once we confirm, what was shared there is deleted.
Other members see your display name, gym, day and results on that gym's boards, and gyms are compared by medians and per-member totals. If a lift needs checking, you can record a video of it in the app; it's seen only by members who train at that gym (and by us if a gym has too few reviewers), and it's deleted 30 days after it's judged. To keep the boards fair, every request is checked with Apple's App Attest, and a device removed for cheating can be marked with Apple's DeviceCheck. Reports you make, and reports about you, are kept until they're resolved.
This data is stored on Cloudflare (D1 and R2). You can leave at any time in Settings > Training > Gym leaderboards, which deletes your account, entries, videos, votes and reports from our server. An account with strikes or one removed for cheating keeps only that record (no name or results), so leaving and rejoining doesn't clear it.
Crash reports and feedback
If you've allowed your iPhone to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass on crash reports. Feedback and screenshots you send through TestFlight come to us so we can fix problems. That's all we receive.
Your choices
- Erase everything Diaulos keeps on your phone: Settings > Your data > Erase.
- Export your training log: Settings > Your data.
- Stop Health access, location, Bluetooth, camera or notifications in the iPhone's Settings or the Health app.
Children
Diaulos isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date. A change that affects what leaves your phone will also be explained in the app.
